Saturday, 5 July 2025, was a day to remember as the communities of Northriding, Olivedale, and JHB North gathered for a heartwarming, belly-filling celebration of flavour and fellowship. The Northriding Residents Association (NRA), in proud partnership with Green Haven Restaurant, hosted its first-ever Potjie Competition — and it was nothing short of amazing!
Hosted at the scenic Blandford Manor, the event brought together 9 spirited teams, each stirring up magic in their pots. From rich traditional stews to bold, creative twists, the aromas that filled the air were simply irresistible. Laughter, music, and the crackling of open flames created a vibrant backdrop for what turned into an unforgettable day.
As pots simmered and teams hustled, visitors enjoyed a fun-filled atmosphere — a true showcase of our community’s energy, unity, and talent. The excitement peaked at 16:30, when the winning team was crowned and walked away with a Green Haven R500 meal voucher and 5x Hypersonic Oxygen Therapy sessions (1 hour each).
We’re incredibly grateful to TRSS Security Services for sponsoring gift baskets that added even more excitement and rewards to the day. And a big shout-out to Onarmor Security for keeping the little ones entertained with a jumping castle — their joy was contagious!
This event was more than just a competition — it was a celebration of what makes our community great. With the support of Green Haven Restaurant, our sponsors, volunteers, and residents from the community, the event ran smoothly and surpassed all expectations.
The success of this inaugural cook-off has inspired us — the NRA is now looking at making the Potjie Competition a quarterly or bi-annual tradition. Judging by the incredible turnout and enthusiastic feedback, we’ve just stirred the start of something special.
Thank you to everyone who participated, contributed, and cheered us on. Here’s to many more pots, laughs, and memories shared together.
Until next time — keep the fires burning and the community spirit alive!
