Community-led infrastructure preservation reached a fresh milestone as the latest NRA suburb cleanup drive brought together residents, private security teams, and municipal partners across Randburg. Facing cold morning conditions, teams of all ages cleared litter, trimmed overgrown hedges, and reclaimed hidden pedestrian paving across key thoroughfares.
By combining physical environmental care with proactive neighbourhood security planning, the Northriding Residents Association (NRA) continues to demonstrate how organised civic drives elevate both suburb aesthetics and local safety.

After enjoying coffee sponsored by Lester Kern and scones by The Daily Scone, our volunteers donned their beanies, jackets, and gloves, grabbed their Pikitup bags provided by Councillor Ralf, and headed out on foot. Some even accepted a ride in the back of a security vehicle. This month’s focus was on cleaning up Blandford, Dexter, Hyperion, and Derby Roads.

1. Tactical Focus: Restoring Four Key Transit Routes
Equipped with heavy-duty Pikitup refuse bags provided by Ward Councillor Ralf Bittkau, volunteers fueled up with coffee from Lester Kern and pastries from The Daily Scone before heading out. To cover maximum ground efficiently, teams travelled on foot or rode in security patrol vehicles to reach target zones along four main roads:
- Blandford Road
- Dexter Road
- Hyperion Road
- Derby Road
By cutting back dense shrubbery and opening up forgotten pathways, the NRA cleanup directly improved road sightlines for both drivers and patrolling security vehicles.

2. Blandford Manor Hub and Community Health Services
Following the physical maintenance work, volunteers reconvened at Blandford Manor, whose owners graciously offered their estate grounds as the central staging area.
Beyond environmental restoration, the event prioritized volunteer wellness. A dedicated health kiosk hosted by Nitefalls Pharmacy provided on-site blood pressure and blood sugar checks for all participants before the afternoon festivities began.
3. Addressing Safety: A Call to Action by Chairman Moshen Naicker
During his address at the event, NRA Chairman Moshen Naicker outlined the current state of the suburb, putting community security at the forefront of the agenda.
Naicker highlighted the daily challenges private security providers face in curbing local crime. He urged trustees and chairpersons from local Homeowners Associations (HOAs) and sectional title body corporates to partner directly with the NRA to build a unified crime prevention framework.
“A well-maintained suburb is easier to secure. Reclaiming our road verges directly supports our security teams in keeping criminals out of our neighborhood.” — Moshen Naicker, NRA Chairman

4. Local Corporate Sponsors Drive Suburb Success
The scale of this NRA suburb maintenance drive was made possible by active participation from regional businesses, legal firms, and service partners:
- Hydration & Logistics: Snymans Attorneys and Ooba Bond Originator sponsored bottled water, while Downtown Garden Services assisted with heavy brush clearing.
- Security Partners: Active protection and escort services were provided by Onarmor, TRSS, Lonwabo, and Syscontrol, alongside operational support from JMPD and SAPS.
- Prize Sponsors: Volunteers participated in a celebratory giveaway with prizes donated by Anesh, Digital Life, Nicola (CV Formatting), Chef Jaques, New Vision Optometrists, Remax, and Hair by Storm.
5. What’s Next: Preparing for the Rainy Season
With road verges cleared and sightlines restored, the NRA is turning its attention to infrastructure protection. The next planned community action will focus specifically on filling and repairing potholes across high-traffic corridors before the seasonal rains arrive.
How to support the next initiative:
Join the Pothole Crew: Volunteer your time or materials for the upcoming road repair weekend!
Connect with the Association: Visit the Northriding Residents Association platform to stay updated on project dates.
Coordinate HOA Security: Encourage your complex trustees to engage with the NRA safety committee.
